| This story could
very well change your perspective concerning what constitutes a genuine
loving relationship.... |
-
A long lasting
relationship never starts out as a relationship at all.
Contrary to the thinking of too many people, physical
intimacy
and a deep abiding love should occur at approximately the same time.
Lovemaking without love is simply sex
and nothing more. It then follows that the common human |
|
experience of becoming intimate with a new
"lover" usually lasts about three months or so before one or the other
decides that they no longer want to pursue a relationship. Anyone
can have sex. Only those who truly love each other can honestly describe
their intimate moments as being "lovemaking."
Those
who truly desire a committed relationship
that is based on genuine love would do well to take heed to the story that
I like to
call...

Love's
Three Ships by Vincent
-
The rough seas of life had taken
their toll on the two weary travelers. Each had come from different
ports only to meet by chance at this place called Havre' DeGras' (The Harbor
of Hope). If not for the lighthouse that shown it's beam across the
dark waters, they might never have found their way to safety. Now,
as they stood upon the dock, looking out over the entrance of the harbor,
they could hear the fog horn of a ship plying it's way toward them. |
-
The
U.S. Friendship
The tall-masted clipper seemed to
glide over the rough sea as it made it's way to the quieter waters of the
harbor. Although it's design was of an ancient ship, it's hull and
sails had a look of newness. Indeed, it was a brand new
vessel.
As it made it's way toward the dock,
only two people on the ship's deck could be seen. |
|
The travelers were amazed to see themselves
sharing the ship's wheel.
This ship represents friendship.
An enduring love is one where two people have begun their
voyage together as friends. When the storms of life come, it is this
ship that will take them safely home time and time again.
Should this ship be the first to drop anchor, then the
second vessel will be ready to enter the harbor. |

The
U.S. Companionship
It was the sound of the engines
first that caught their attention followed by a few beeps from the watercraft
that next entered the harbor. |
|
The names of dozens of ports of call adorned the starboard
side of the hull. This sleek ship had obviously docked at many places
along the way. It was a happy looking craft that seemed to bounce
upon the whitecaps of the waters. Yet, they could see that it's outer
beauty was only a covering over a very strong hull. The deck was
secure and safe looking. The engines purred as the craft made it's
way to the dock.
This ship represents companionship.
Once two people become friends, the next step is to become
companions. If love begins to take hold, the need and desire to be
with each other becomes important to both. Sharing mutual experiences
and being together becomes something they look forward to when apart.
Should this ship be the second to drop anchor, then the
third vessel is ready to enter the harbor. |

The
U.S. Relationship
The loud sound of water being displaced
in great volumes surprised the two travelers as the giant |
|
ship began to make it's way toward them.
They could scarce believe that such a large vessel could fit through the
narrows of the harbor entrance.
It was a gorgeous ship. The multitude of happy passengers
could be seen on every deck. However, as they looked through the
windows of the top-most deck, they could see the captain and first mate.
Again, they recognized themselves in the faces of the two people who ruled
this mighty ocean going cruise ship. There was no mistaking that
thier love was very deep and real. The captain held his mate close
to him and she reciprocated his love as the ship dropped
anchor.
This ship represents a relationship.
As a couple's friendship deepens and they become inseparable
companions, a genuine relationship begins to develop. Despite some
of the ill winds that blow across their lives or any unexpected gales,
their love has become strong enough to weather all of them.
There is now a shared intimacy that is less self-motivated
as each one desires to give of themselves to the other. When
enjoying shared moments of lovemaking, the tender loving feelings between
them only makes these times all the more special and beautiful.
Along the way, they have picked up many other passengers.
Their love for each other has spread out to other relationships; children,
family,
friends--all sharing the happiness of being on board such a sea-worthy
and safe vessel.
These two have become fellow-travelers. They will
continue their journey together. They now have access to a fleet
of the three stoutest ships to ever sail the oceans.
Friendship
Companionship.
Relationship.
The last cannot come before the first.
Each must enter the harbor in order and in it's own good
time.
And that is the story of Love's Three Ships.

The mission of this not-for-profit website is to promote clear insights
and toleration regarding the many variations of primary relationships that
exist in our world. We ask for neither acceptance or approval but
hope that each visitor who reviews the pages of this site will leave them
with a better understanding of the numerous cultural, historical, preferential,
religious, sexual, and sociological approaches to coupling that have always
existed and will continue to exist as long as there are at least two human
beings living on this planet. If the effort put into creating and
maintaining this site results in others coming to the realization that
the basic human need to love and be loved takes on many forms which are
accepted by those who practice them, whether right or wrong as determined
by the personal belief system of others, then it will have served it's
