The
Mystery of the Secret Admirer...
-
Kira opened the mailbox and pulled out several envelopes
and a small package. She had been expecting a some very special lingerie
that she had ordered through the Intenet and was happy to see the return
address of the website from where she had ordered it. However, it
was not until she set the envelopes on the kitchen counter that she began
to look through them. They included a telephone bill, a credit card statement,
a post card from her sister who was touring France with her husband, and
a small envelope with no return address.
It was the last piece of mail that caught her attention.
Her name and address were hand written. She used a letter opener to slice
open the envelope. Inside, she found a small piece of paper folded three
ways. As she opened it, a the strange feel of a mystery in the making made
her shiver.
It read...... |

-
"Kira, How do I tell you or can I even begin to explain the depth of
my feelings for you? When he talks about you, I can hear your tender sweet
voice. Listening to him describe you makes my heart pound, wishing
that I could be the one who belonged to you. Oh, how I so want to
be near you; to cuddle up and snuggle with you night after night--if only
to watch the way you move; those graceful feminine gestures accentuated
by your natural beauty."
"When I think about you, everything that I have ever considered
beautiful pales in comparison. How I long to be your companion and
your protector."
"Yet, If you are truly as gorgeous on the inside as he
says you are, then how could I ever want to be possessed by anyone other
than you? His descriptions of your gentle nature, happy spirit, and
quick wit has a way of lighting up the dark places of his soul. If only
you would do that for me, too. I just know that I will find all that
anyone could ever possibly desire or want in you."
"However, it is my fate to only be able to admire you
from afar, for if I were him, I'd bring you roses and take you to the moon--and
never, ever want to come back again."

Kira stood still, expressionless, as she read it again
and then once more. She set the note back on the counter with the rest
of the mail and thought to herself that, "Surely, Vincent had written it.
Who else could it be?"
Still, she wondered.
Again, she picked up the mystery note and then put it
back in it's envelope. Carefully, she tucked it away in one of her bedroom
dresser drawers. She would ask Vincent about it when he got home from work.
An hour later the doorbell rang. When she opened
the door, a flower delivery man asked if she was Kira DiAngelo. She smiled
and nodded.
"Please sign here, Mam." he said while handing her a bouquet
of a dozen roses already beautifully set in a vase. He thanked her and
then turned to leave.
"Excuse me," Kira exclaimed, "but who sent these to me?"
"There's a note attached to the vase, Mam. The senders
name should be on it."
She thanked him and, as he disappeared down the drive,
she opened the tiny envelope that came with the flowers. The card inside
simply said, "From Your Secret Admirer."
Who could it be?
She searched her mind. It might be any one of several
friends or a few co-workers but she could not imagine any of them sending
her love notes or flowers.
"Still," she thought, "it's possible but not probable--at
least, I don't think it is."
Vincent walked through the door, threw his briefcase down
on the sofa, and, as he did every day, gave her a big hug and a peck on
the lips.
"Hi, how'd your day go?"
"Well," she said, "anything you want to tell me?"
"No, nothing I can think of," he replied. Is there something
I am supposed to know?"
Kira paused for a moment and then simply replied, "Oh,
no, sorry, uh, I was just sorta hoping you'd tell me that you love me."
"Baby, I love you. I love you. I love you." With that,
he hugged her again and shared a long passionate kiss with her."
"It wasn't him," she thought.
Vincent disappeared down the hallway mumbling something
about taking a shower and getting cleaned up.
How would she explain the roses? He hadn't noticed them.
While Vincent was showering, Kira studied the dozen roses
and felt even more perplexed. She would have to show him the note and tell
him. Kira tried to lose herself in one of the books she was currently reading.
A half-hour later, Vincent walked into the bedroom where she was curled
up on a recliner next to the bay window. The mystery note sat on the nightstand
next to the bed.
"Vincent, something happened today and I need to tell
you about it." |
-
-
"Okay, but I want to show you something first."
He took her by the hand and led her down the hallway to
the spare bedroom.
She began giggling and said, "Hey, I know what you are
up to!"
"No, you don't!" he laughed.
When they entered the room, he asked her to go over near
the closet door and open it up slowly. It was then shen he let out
a scream of delight.
As the door cracked open, a beautiful little shepherd
puppy came toddling out of the closet. With a gleam of joy in her eyes,
she bent down to take hold of him.
"Oh, Vincent, I have always wanted a shepherd and he is
just so, uh, handsome! Does he have a name?"
Vincent had different kinds of smiles. Kira knew
all of them by heart. This was the "I-gotcha'-good-this-time" smile.
"Yes, his name is SAM."
"Sam?" she laughed. "Well, that is a cute name but
why Sam?"
"Well, actually, that is not his name. Those are
his initials."
"His initials?"
"Yeah, SAM--Secret Admirer Man. By the way, did
you get the note and the roses that he sent to you?"
A tear fell from her cheek.
"Let's take SAM for a walk. There's a beautiful
moon out tonight."
Vincent made everything so special.
He was her real secret admirer man. |
