Only One Life to Live: A poem written by a 53 year-old man whose life has passed by much too quickly.

Only one life to live
Only one and, yet,
Like all those before me,
Three score and ten is all I get.

Only one life to live,
Every choice is mine to make;
And every consequence I must accept,
Whether deemed success or mistake.

Only one life to live,
Marked by joys and tears;
Perhaps shared with someone special,
In short moments measured by years.

Only one life to live,
With each day shorter than the one before;
Fleeting moments seem to disappear,
Today is all I have with yesterday's no more.

Only one life to live,
With all it's hopes, dreams, and cares;
Some realized, others unfulfilled,
Yet, in life's circumstances unawares.

Only one life to live,
I go forward from day to day;
Always wondering, ever pondering,
Why it is that I have passed this way.

Only one life to live,
Praying that in some special way;
It's meaning will survive the test of time,
Even though it's memory will fade away.

Only one life to live,
How quickly I passed life's noon;
To find myself in twilight time,
Approaching midnight and done too soon.
